Cyanyde's Corner

I went vintage shopping for my birthday!!! I managed to find a dress from the 60’s, one from the 70’s and one from the 80’s. That is NEVER going to happen EVER again.

This is one of the outfits that came out of it… that I incidentally wore to a baby shower. Almost ironic, but not quite.

1 80’s Vintage St. John dress in fuchsia from Vintage Revenge in Cambridge

1 pair of Rounded Diamond Fishnet tights from American Apparel (I already had them)

1 pair of the best badass boots ever (by that I mean Dr. Martens Paratrooper Warner Pro Boot) from Hootenanny in Cambridge (Happy birthday present to me!)

1 pyramid studded belt (who knows where I picked that up…)

4 items of awesome-dawesome-duck-sauce caliber coming together to make a pretty cool look. Can we say yes? Chyeaaaaa ;)

Cyanyde’s DIY fashion Guide: Cheapo Keychains -> Dopetastic Earrings in 5 easy-peasy steps.

Step 1: Obtain 2 glow in the dark Virgin Mary keychains from tourista store in San Francisco.

Step 2: Cut off the 2nd to last jump ring with mini wire cutters.

Step 3: Break out 2 jump rings and 2 ear wires.

Step 4: Use your pliers to open the jump ring connect it and an ear wire to each base.

Step 5: Use the pliers again to close them up and you’re all done.

*Note, these are pretty heavy so I’d suggest starting out with a lighter, thinner, cheaper keychain (though I can’t guarantee their Our Lady glow in the dark awesomeability)

Hasta!

The (mini) masses have spoken and André 3000 is apparently where it’s at. In fact, here’s a quote from one of my friends that weighed in:

thinking with your eyes: 1) gossel 2) andre 3000 3) kid cudi
thinking with your ears: 1) andre 3000 2) gossel 3) kid cudi
thinking with your @#$%!?: gossel and andre 3000 at the same time (not on the list): kid cudi
Hmm… I’m not going to take the space or the time right now to talk about the Kid Cudi hate (although I’m feeling a strong urge to do so) and get down to the business of my dream date with the wonderful Mr. Benjamin.

Location: Well since the space travel is out of the question and Georgia’s been done before (I’m not too fond of heat anyway) Amsterdam it is!

Activities: I’ve heard I would love Amsterdam so of course I want to do it all. But I guess I can narrow it down to 2 museums in the morning / early afternoon, dinner cruise on the canal and then red light district after dark… yea baby, yea ;)

Now for the fun part…. Clothes!!

Daytime: Rock N Roll Wiggle Dress in “Tattoo” + my hand-altered yellow chucks + my little diablo shrinky-dink guitar pick earrings. I mean, museums are wonderful places but if I’m going to focus on the masters and not trippin’ out because I’m on a date with Andre 3000, I need to be comfortable. Nothing says comfort like a cute rockin’ mini dress and some good ole’ Converse.

Dress: Deadly Dames clothing Shoes: Converse via Yellow Rat Bastard (they’re cheaper there) + black & red sharpies from Staples. Earrings: talk to me, I’ll make you some :D

Nighttime: I guess this deserves a better breakdown so…

Dress: The Micheline Dress in Black with Black Chiffon Trim by Pinup Couture If you haven’t noticed yet, I love looking like a pretty pretty pinup/rocker princess in black every chance I get. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. This dress is gorgeous, sexy & classy. What else would I need? Ah yes. shoes and accessories… onward!

Shoes: Sugar Skulls Heel by Iron Fist Iron Fist makes the best bad-ass shoes. Period. I actually adore their monster platform series but I’m pretty sure Mr. 3000 is already shorter than me so these baby heels will do.

Accessories: I’m in favor of the less is more theory when it comes to accessories so most days I have my staples and a pair of dope earrings. Since this is a special occasion I’d want to make some. For Andre 3000, I’m thinking tarot card shrinky-dinks one The Star and the other Death. As a matter of fact I’ll think I’ll make them anyway. They’re gonna look something like these trees but cooler.

Amsterdam, Art & Andre Benjamin. Yep coolest dream date ever.

SWAAAAAAGGGGGG!!!!

Went to Housing Works and Trash & Vaudeville one Sunday in the rain and it was GLORIOUS. My Housing Works bag was paper & disintegrated in the rain but the nice people at T & V gave me an extra bag on my way out. BONUS: I got to meet Jimmy at Vaudeville! He was super nice and I can pretty much bet he’s been in the scene since it started in the 70’s… still awesome & still rockin’ <3

T&V: 4 St. Marks Place

Hybrid Moments

The Misfits

Static Age (1978)

A little Trash & Vaudeville mood music. They were playing Prince while I was there but I’m sure this song shows up at some point in their never-ending playlist.

The Ramones Album Cover Diaper Bag by SourPuss
This bag was supposed to be for my camera Sofie (yes my camera is named Sofie after Sofia Coppola) but it ended up being an everyday thing. Who doesn’t want to carry the Ramones in PVC vinyl on their side everyday? AND it comes with a satiny red changing pad. I’m definitely keeping this and using it when I have little baby rockers of my own.

Cyanyde’s Bio

About Me: I am an artistic chameleon / the cross section between hip hop - punk rock - indie roll - and classic soul. Fashionably speaking, I’m a carefully crafted combination of psychobilly, pinup and thriftshop with just a sprinkling of goth on top.

Zodiac sign: Scorpio

3 things I couldn’t live without: iPod, sketchbook, coffee / black nail polish (it’s a toss up)

Favorite color: Black

Favorite TV Shows: The Addams Family, Law & Order SVU, The Boondocks, Miami Ink -> LA Ink, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Favorite Movies: There are seriously too many to name here but typically anything directed by Quentin Tarantino, John Waters or Tim Burton / what Netflix describes as “Critically-acclaimed dark, mindbending movies” / Classic Bombshell & Femme Fatale flicks

If I were trapped on a Desert Island and could only take 5 books they would be: Shakespeare Anthology, Character and Culture, Dangerous Angels, The Vampire Chronicles, Gray’s Anatomy

Top 10 song ultimate playlist: ”Side A” Sed Non Satiata, “Knocks Me Off My Feet” Stevie Wonder, “The Ghost of You” My Chemical Romance, “Hum Hallelujah” Fall Out Boy, “Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight” The Beatles, “Waiting” Norah Jones, “Don’t Ever Fucking Question That” Atmosphere, “Saturday Night” The Misfits, “Sweet Child of Mine” Guns N Roses, “Every Planet We Reach Is Dead” Gorillaz… of course there’s more but this’ll do for now.

Quote that best describes me: ”I don’t like standard beauty - there is no beauty without strangeness.” ~Karl Lagerfeld.
